FORTIS Programs

Fortis College in Cuyahoga Falls, OH: State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

The State Tested Nursing Assistant program will provide instruction to help students develop a working knowledge for providing health care for individuals who are elderly, ill, or simply unable to perform daily living activities on their own.

A State Tested Nursing Assistant is someone who helps patients with their daily health care under the supervision of a licensed nurse. State Tested nursing assistants -- also referred to as, nursing aides, or home health care aides -- assist patients with daily living and fundamental tasks.

State Tested Nursing assistants work in hospitals, assisted living facilities, long-term care facilities, nursing homes and mental health facilities. Some also assist patients at their residences. Since patients commonly need care 24 hours a day, STNAs will often work different shifts to cover their patients’ care around the clock.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Provide basic nursing care under the supervision of a Registered or Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Perform such procedures as transferring patients from beds to wheelchairs
  • Perform the proper techniques for dressing, feeding and personal hygiene Understand and adhere to basic patient safety procedures
  • Perform basic patient care procedures such as taking vital signs of patients such as blood pressure and heart rate

Our curriculum will prepare you through lectures, labs and hands-on clinical training by an experienced Nursing Instructor.

This course is a non-accredited, non-credit continuing education course.
