My sister encouraged me to do the Dental Assistant program; I had been career hopping and needed to settle into something with a steady future. I also considered nursing, early child development and surgical technology – but eventually settled into Dental Assisting. At first I wasn’t sure I would be able to complete the program but the teachers and my student colleagues gave me enough positive reinforcement to motivate me to finish. With my significant other in Afghanistan, four children, a home to manage and a part-time job; it wasn’t easy to balance everything. I do feel pretty good that I completed the program and obtained my certificate. I was able to transition from my externship directly into employment and am enjoying the beginnings of my Dental Assisting Career.
